Muskies Down Stars to Open Weekend Series
Lincoln, NE (January 20th, 2023) - The Sioux City Musketeers net four goals all in the second period that carried them to a 4-2 victory over the Lincoln Stars to open a two game weekend series with their Western Conference rivals.
After a scoreless opening twenty minutes the Musketeers and Stars partook in a goal and penalty riddled second period. Early on, at the 1:43 mark of the second, Ryan Conmy padded his team lead in the goal column with his 18th of the season on a power play to give Sioux City the lead.
At 9:03 in the period Finn Loftus scored his third of the season ripping an open shot from the slot and doubled the Muskies lead. Defenseman, Ren Morque netted his first USHL goal punching a rebound back in on a two on one making it 3-0.
In a mad scramble in front of the net at the 17:21 time marker of the period Grant Slukynsky punched in the fourth and final goal of the period, his sixth of the season and Sioux City grabbed a 4-0 lead.
Lincoln added a pair of goals in the third. Brennan Ali scored at 5:33 in the period and Tanner Ludtke scored his 17th of the campaign on the power play at 16:47 in the third.
The Musketeers led by Croix Kochendorfer who nabbed the games first star held off the Stars the rest of the way. Kochendorfer stopped 30 of 32 shots. Cameron Whitehead of Lincoln made 15 saves on 19 attempts.
The Musketeers (15-12-2-3) will again face the Stars on Saturday night at the Tyson Events Center with puck drop at 6:05. They will become for one night only, the Dew City Musketeers and wear Mountain Dew themed jerseys that will be available for purchase during a post game auction.
