HIGH SCORING AFFAIR GOES TO SIOUX CITY
SIOUX CITY, IA (October 13th, 2023) - The Sioux City Musketeers didn't show any superstitious nerves on Friday the thirteenth with a high scoring, 6-5 win over the USNTDP.
The Muskies raced out to a quick 3-0 lead in the early going. Hagen Burrows, deflected a shot on the power play, just 2:53 into the contest to give Sioux City a 1-0 lead.
Tate Pritchard scored his second of the season, off a transition assist from Jonah Aegerter at 3:30 and Brian Nicholas, deflected a shot past the net minder at 7:35 and on the power play giving Sioux City a 3-0 lead.
Team USA cut into that commanding early lead with a pair of goals, at the 10:36 and 11:12 marks of the opening period, giving the Muskies a 3-2 lead at the first intermission.
The United States tied the game early in the second, 2:55 in, on a LJ Mooney goal knotting the game up 3-3.
A turnover behind the net forced by Giacomo Martino led to Max Strand's first goal of the season at 6:13 in the middle period and handed the Musketeers a 4-3 lead.
They padded the lead at 11:28 in the second, Easton Jacobs dished a fantastic, spinning, no look assist to a wide open Ty Hanson who finished in front of the net. The USNTDP tallied a goal late in the period at 19:33 to cut the lead back to one, 5-4 at the second break.
In the third, Ethan Gardula finished off a pair of transition passes from Brian Nicholas and Hagen Burrows at 7:09 in the period and gave the Musketeers a 6-4 lead.
Team USA responded with one final tally with a net empty at 18:32 to give the game its final score of 6-5. Jakub Krbecek withstood the ferocious come back attempt from team USA to finish off the victory for the Muskies. He picked up his second win by making 18 saves on 23 shots.
The Musketeers will once again face the USNTDP on Saturday evening with puck drop scheduled for 6:00 pm CDT. The Musketeers will only enjoy a pair of days off before an early morning puck drop on Tuesday at 11:00 am at the Tyson Events Center when they face the Sioux Falls Stampede for the Empirical Foods School Day Game.
