FORMER MUSKETEER ADAM JOHNSON, DEAD AT 29 AFTER TRAGIC ACCIDENT
It's with a very heavy heart that we share the news that former Musketeer Adam Johnson passed away last night as a result from an injury suffered on the ice, he was 29 years old. We are devastated by this terrible tragedy.
The Hibbing, Minnesota native played for the Musketeers from 2013 to 2015 and amassed 117 points during that time. He led the Muskies in scoring during his final season as an Alternate Captain with 71 points, and was named to our All-Decade Team during our 50th Anniversary Season. He was part of a very special Sioux City team that had four future NHL players on the roster with Johnson (Pittsburgh), Joe Snively (Washington), Neal Pionk (Winnipeg), and Walker Duehr (Calgary).
Johnson's coach during his time in Sioux City was Jay Varady. Varady is now an Assistant Coach with the Detroit Red Wings and offered his thoughts on Johnson this morning. "Adam was a special person and player," Varady said. "He was a huge part of our teams in Sioux City 13-15. Our condolences go out to Adam's family and former teammates."
Musketeers CEO Travis Morgan said, "From billets to fans to coaches, everyone liked Adam. Our organization is better because Adam Johnson was in it. We will be taking steps to honor him the rest of the season."
