MUSKETEERS PUT ON SHOW FOR HOME CROWD
SIOUX CITY, IA (October 6th, 2023) - The Sioux City Musketeers gave the home faithful something to cheer about Friday night with a 5-2 victory over the Waterloo Black Hawks.
Sioux City grabbed the lead first, Kaden Shahan tallied his third goal of the season on the power play at the 8:32 mark of the opening frame.
The narrative through the first two periods was Waterloo answering the Musketeers. Eero Butella notched his first of the year at 16:26 in the opening period and tied the game 1-1.
The Musketeers turned to defenseman Joseph Mense, at 9:39 in the second. The blue liner found open ice and sniped it past the Waterloo net minder and gave Sioux City a 2-1 lead.
But the Hawks answered again, four minutes later, Jaedon Kerr's first lamp lighter of the year tied the game 2-2 heading into the second intermission.
That goal for Waterloo was their final of the game thanks to Samuel Urban who picked up the win for the Musketeers, turning aside 13 of 15 shots. Calvin Vachon turned away 25 of 29 shots for the Black Hawks.
The game winning goal came 8:00 into the third off of the stick of Jonah Aegerter, his first of the season and with the Musketeers to earn him the first star of the game.
Padding the lead was Shahan with his second of the game and team leading fourth of the year. And finishing off the Musketeer victory was rookie Easton Jacobs with an empty netter.
The Musketeers hit the road the following day when they travel north to battle the Fargo Force at 6:05 pm on Saturday. Sioux City's next home game will be the Empirical Foods School Day Game on October 17th with puck drop scheduled for 11:00 AM.
