Muskies Offense Explodes In Third to Collect Win

Sioux City, IA (February 19th, 2023) - A pair of goals from Dylan Godbout and Grant Slukynsky helped propel the Sioux City Musketeers to a 7-5 victory over the Lincoln Stars.

The goals came along slowly to start the game. Jared Mangan of the Stars scored at the 5:38 mark of the period to take a 1-0 lead after one period.

Lincoln padded their lead to two goals with a Boston Buckberger goal on the power play 3:33 into the period.

The Musketeers began the comeback trail at the 12:24 mark of the second with Ryan Conmy knifing a shot past the Lincoln net minder for his Western Conference leading 25th goal of the season. Sioux City tied the game on a Grant Slukynsky goal that deflected off his sweater for his tenth of the season, just mere moments into a power play.

Lincoln regained the advantage at the end of the middle frame on a Mason Marcellus lamp lighter with 29 seconds to spare and took a 3-2 lead into the third.

Over the final twenty minutes the Musketeers offensive attack came to life. Ben Doran scored only 55 seconds into the period and tied the game at three. Dylan Godbout found his first of two   goals just 39 seconds later for his tenth of the season and gave Sioux City their first lead of the game.

The game swang back and forth from there. Tanner Ludtke netted his 23rd of the season before Godbout just a minute later scored again to give Sioux City a 5-4 lead.

Lincoln tied the game at five on Manggan's second goal of the game at 11:17 in the third. But Tomi Leppanen gave the Muskies the lead for good on a slap shot blast that found the five hole of the Lincoln goalie. Slukynsky finished his multi goal game with an empty netter from the opposite goal line to finish the Sioux City victory 7-5.

The Musketeers (19-18-2-3) snapped out of their five game losing streak. They hit the road next weekend when they travel to Kearney, NE to face the Tri-City Storm for a double header weekend series that begins on Friday at 7:05 pm. The Muskies next home game comes on Sunday, March 5th against the Waterloo Black Hawks.
