OVERTIME THRILLER GIVES MUSKIES WIN
Ben Doran Plays Hero, Sioux City Wins Second Straight
Kearney, NE (March 18th, 2023) - Ben Doran punched home a game winning overtime goal to give the Sioux City Musketeers a 4-3 victory over the Tri-City Storm, and won both contests in Kearney.
The theme of the game was each team answering the other rather quickly. It began when the Storm lit the lamp at the 11:51 mark of the first period on a goal scored by Cam O'Neill. Sioux City answered back quickly at 14:27 from a Dylan Godbout power play goal, his 13th of the season.
In the second neither team found the back of the net to keep the game a 1-1 tie. Tri-City retook the lead on the 13th goal of the year from Kieran Cebrian. But again the Musketeers responded, only 59 seconds later on a Ben Poitras goal, his 14th of the campaign.
Tied 2-2, and facing a penalty kill inside the final two minutes of regulation Sioux City took their first lead of the night. Kaden Shahan floated a short handed goal past the Tri-City net minder and Sioux City took a 3-2 lead with 1:06 left in the third.
But just as the Muskies responded all night, so did the Storm. Dane Dowiak punched in a goal with just six seconds remaining in regulation to send the game to overtime.
In OT it took 3:01 for the Musketeers to come away with the victory. Ben Doran slapped in a rebound to give Sioux City the two points and back to back wins over the Storm.
Axel Mangbo picked up the win for the Musketeers stopping 23 of 26 shots. Patriks Berzins was handed the loss making 16 saves on 20 attempts.
A final tilt on Sunday afternoon awaits Sioux City (22-23-2-3) who has the chance to win all three games this weekend. Puck drop against the Omaha Lancers is scheduled for 4:05 pm in Omaha.
