GREEN BAY DOWNS SIOUX CITY IN OVERTIME

Cranberry Township, PA (September 22nd, 2023) - The Sioux City Musketeers dropped their second consecutive game in overtime to open up the 2023-24 season with a 4-3 loss to the Green Bay Gamblers. 

The loss will finish the Musketeers 2023 DICK's Sporting Goods USHL Fall Classic experience with an 0-0-2 record and two points towards the regular season standings. 

Green Bay jumped on the board at 13:03 in the opening period on a Michael DeAngelo goal, taking a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. 

The Musketeers tied the game with one of the new comers to the roster. Defenseman, Sam Court tallied his first goal as a Musketeer at the 2:28 mark of the second period while on a power play. 

Six minutes later, Green Bay retook the lead on a goal from Lev Katzin and gained a 2-1 lead. 

A pair of late goals by the Musketeers handed Sioux City the lead going into the second intermission. Brian Nicholas converted a power play opportunity, the second one of the day for Sioux City, who went 2/4 on the man advantage. The goal tied the game 2-2 at the 17:11 mark of the third. 

Ethan Gardula then gave the Musketeers a 3-2 lead with a goal at 19:24 in the second period. 

The score remained 3-2 in favor of the Musketeers until late in the third. Libor Nemec netted his second of the season at 18:51 in the frame as Green Bay had emptied the net. 

In overtime it was Rasmus Larsson who ended it for the Gamblers with a goal at the 3:09 mark to win the contest for Green Bay 4-3. 

Jakub Krbecek was in net for the Musketeers, he stopped 25 of 29 shots. Adam Gajan picked up the win for the Gamblers in net, making 29 saves on 31 attempts. 

The Musketeers will now return home from Pittsburgh and continue their early season trek on the road when they face the Tri-City Storm for a pair of games next week beginning on Friday, September 29 at 7:05 pm in Kearney, NE. The Musketeers first home game of the season will be Friday, October 6 at 7:05 pm at the Tyson Events Center when they play host to the Waterloo Black Hawks.
