Sioux City Controls Game in Win over Storm
Sioux City, IA (October 21st, 2022) - The Sioux City Musketeers controlled the game from puck drop on Friday night as they beat the Tri-City Storm 5-2.
The Musketeers (1-3-2) have had some close calls in notching their first win of the season but in this one it all came together for the full sixty minutes.
Five different Musketeers found the back of the net in the victory and it started with Easton Zueger who ripped a shot from the blue line for his first goal of the season at the 2:11 mark of the first period.
Sawyer Scholl notched his first goal with Sioux City at the 18:23 mark of the first period on a pass from Garrett Brown. Scholl deflected the puck into the net to give the Musketeers a 2-0 lead.
In the second, Sioux City out shot the Storm 10-2 en route to a 29-16 advantage throughout the game. Tri-City pulled to within a goal at the 16:10 mark with a Trevor Connelly goal. Scoring on one of just two shots in the period.
A key play in the game was Colin Kessler's goal at the 19:15 mark of the second to give Sioux City a 3-1 lead at the end of two. Kessler stole a Tri-City pass in the slot and quickly ripped a shot to put the Musketeers up by a pair.
Kessler had a goal and an assist to collect the game's first star.
In the third period, Sioux City and Try City traded a pair of goals. Ben Doran scored his second for the Musketeers to make it 4-1 before a Seth Constance goal gave the game a 4-2 score.
Ryan Conmy found the net on an empty net, short handed goal from his own defensive zone at the 18:20 mark to put the win away for Sioux City, 5-2.
Axel Mangbo (1-3-1) picked up the win stopping 14 of 16 shots. Scholl was given the games second star and Zueger was given the third.
Sioux City now with one in the win column will turn their attention to Sioux Falls for their Pink in the Rink tilt on Saturday at the Tyson Events Center with puck drop scheduled for 6:05 pm.
